Welding & Metal Processing
Certified protection against splash, heat and flame
Welders and metal workers face molten metal splash, radiant heat from the arc, brief contact with flame, and a minor risk of electric shock from live conductors — the exact hazards EN ISO 11611 was written to test. XM FireLine fabrics are woven from FR-treated cotton and cotton blends, tested and documented against both welding classes, so the fabric you buy is already backed by the test report a tender or safety officer will ask for.
Why welders need EN ISO 11611 certified fabric
Welding, brazing, plasma cutting and gouging all throw off molten metal droplets and expose the wearer to radiant heat from the arc. EN ISO 11611 is the standard written specifically for this hazard set, and it is split into two classes: Class 1 for less hazardous welding techniques and lower spatter/metal-splash risk, and Class 2 for more hazardous techniques such as MMA, MAG and MIG welding where higher levels of spatter and radiant heat are expected. Fabric weight and construction (typically a tightly-woven FR cotton twill or satin) are what push a garment from Class 1 into Class 2 — XM FireLine fabrics are tested and documented against both.
The standard that applies
Welders are almost always specified against EN ISO 11611. Two standards are commonly requested alongside it.
Clothing to protect against welding hazards — metal splash, radiant heat, brief flame contact. The primary standard for welders.
Electrostatic dissipation — specified alongside EN ISO 11611 whenever welding takes place near flammable or explosive atmospheres.
High-visibility signalling — relevant when welding is combined with site or roadside work requiring visibility class.

If your tender specifies Class 1 or Class 2, send us the exact wording and end-use. We’ll confirm which XM FireLine fabric meets it and provide the ISO 6942, ISO 9150, ISO 15025 and EN 1149-2 test reports along with the quote.
