FR-Oxford certified to EN 20471 (Contrast colors)

March 2019, XM FireLine™ fr-fabric FR-Oxford in Dark Navy colour has been certified to EN 20471 (Contrast colours). 

FR-Oxford is a 250gsm protective fabric with limited flame resistant properties (EN 14116). It is made of 98% polyester and 2% antistatic with flame retardant PU lamination and Water Resistant finishing (EN343 & EN 1149). It’s best used for protective rainwear or FR-clothing. FR-Oxford is you best choice for FR clothing to be used in rainy places where there is also a risk of flame or fire.

The Standard EN 20471:2013 specifies requirements for high visibility clothing. The high visibility clothing is intended to provide conspicuity of the wearer in any light condition when viewed by operators of vehicles or other mechanized equipment during daylight conditions and under illumination of headlights in the dark.

According to EN 20471, our fr fabric FR-Oxford has successfully passed the following tests:

COLOUR FASTNESS TO RUBBING (ISO 105-X12:2016) – performance level PASS

The method is applicable to textiles made from all kinds of fibres in the form of yarn or fabric, including textile floor coverings, whether dyed or printed. Two tests may be made, one with a dry rubbing cloth and one with a wet rubbing cloth.

  • Wrap: 4-5 – PASS
  • Weft: 4-5 – PASS

The limit set by the Standard EN ISO 20471:2013 + A1:2016 for color fastness to rubbing is 4, in dry.

COLOUR FASTNESS TO PERSPIRATION (EN ISO 105-E04:2013) – performance level PASS

This test is intended to determine the resistance of color of dyed textile to the action of acidic and alkaline perspiration. This criterion does not apply to white products, to products that are neither dyed nor printed, to furniture fabrics, curtains or similar textiles intended for interior decoration.

ALKALINE SOLUTION

The limit set by the Standard EN ISO 20471:2013/A1:2016 point (5.3.2) for testing of colour fastness to perspiration, is 4 for degradation and 4 for staining

COLOUR FASTNESS TO DOMESTIC AND COMMERCIAL LAUNDERING (EN ISO 105-C06:2010) – performance level – PASS

specifies a procedure to determine the maximum force and elongation at maximum force of textile fabrics using a strip method.

The method is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics which exhibit stretch characteristics imparted by the presence of an elastomeric fibre, mechanical, or chemical treatment. It can be applicable to fabrics produced by other techniques. It is not normally applicable to geotextiles, nonwovens, coated fabrics, textile-glass woven fabrics, and fabrics made from carbon fibres or polyolefin tape yarns.

The method specifies the determination of the maximum force and elongation at maximum force of test specimens in equilibrium with the standard atmosphere for testing, and of test specimens in the wet state.

The limit set by the Standard EN ISO 20471:2013/A1:2016 point (5.3.3), for testing of colour fastness to dry cleaning, is 4 for staining.

DETERMINATION OF BREAKING STRENGTH AND ELONGATION (EN ISO 1421:2016 Method 1) – performance level PASS

ISO 1421:2016 specifies two methods for the determination of the tensile strength of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics.
Method 1 ? the strip test method, which is a method for the determination of tensile strength and elongation at break.
The methods apply to test pieces in equilibrium with specific standard atmospheres for testing and to wet test pieces. Both methods require the use of a constant rate of extension (CRE) tensile-testing machine.

BREAKING STRENGTH

  • Wrap: -1307N – PASS
  • Weft: -1050N – PASS

ELONGATION

  • Wrap: 22.0% – PASS
  • Weft: 23.0% – PASS

The tensile strength of coated fabrics and laminates must resist a breaking load in both directions ≥ 100 N.

 

WATER VAPOUR RESISTANCE (EN ISO 11092:2014)  – performance level – CLASS 3

The application of this measurement technique is restricted to a maximum thermal resistance and water-vapour resistance which depend on the dimensions and construction of the apparatus used (e.g. 2 m2·K/W and 700 m2·Pa/W respectively, for the minimum specifications of the equipment referred to in ISO 11092:2014).

According to the requirements of standard EN ISO 20471:2013/A1:2016, water vapour resistance of all layers of the garment shall be in accordance with the following table:

RUBBER- OR PLASTICS-COATED FABRICS – DETERMINATION OF TEAR RESISTANCE (EN ISO 4671-1:2003)  – performance level – PASS

ISO 4674-1:2003 describes two methods for determining the forces necessary to initiate and propagate tearing of a coated fabric using the constant rate of tear method. The methods described are:

method A: tongue tear;
method B: trouser tear.

TEAR

  • Wrap: -74N – PASS
  • Weft: -73N – PASS

The relative expanded uncertainty of Tear resistance is ±7% assay value of the measured, for a probability of coverage of 95%.
The external material must resist a determination of tear resistance in both directions ≥ 20 N.

 

DETERMINATION OF DIMENSIONAL CHANGE IN DOMESTIC WASHING AND DRYING (EN ISO 5077:2008)  – performance level – PASS

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the dimensional change of fabrics, garments or other textile articles when subjected to an appropriate combination of specified washing and dryingprocedures.In the case of textile articles or deformable materials, it is necessary to exercise all possible caution in the interpretation of the results.
