The 5 best flame-resistant fabrics

Choosing flame-resistant fabric starts with the hazard, not the weight. Here are five XM FireLine fabrics, each the right answer to a different job.

From a 120 gsm liner to a 310 gsm high-visibility softshell. Compare them at a glance, then read what each one is built for.

The lightest

ARAVIS-120

ARAVIS-120 is a thin, light and inherently flame-resistant liner made for firefighters’ clothing, where it forms part of the four-layer turnout gear.

The blend of aramid and viscose is very durable and gives a high level of thermal protection, while the fabric transports perspiration away from the skin. Comfort comes from weight: at 120 gsm it adds protection without bulk.

The all-rounder

SIRENA-255

One rip-stop fabric for several risks. SIRENA-255 carries EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 11611, EN ISO 20471, EN 13034 and EN 1149-5 certificates, plus EN 61482-1-1 for arc exposure.

32% cotton keeps it breathable through long shifts, and the properties hold through up to 50 industrial washes at 75 °C. In HV Yellow it adds visibility to flame protection in a single layer.

255 gsm · 55% Modacrylic, 32% Cotton, 7% FR PA, 5% Para-Aramid, 1% AS · Rip-stop · 50 × 75 °C

The twill for hot work

DEVON-260

DEVON-260 combines inherent flame resistance with twill durability. The 55% modacrylic builds the protection into the fibre instead of applying a surface treatment, and EN ISO 11612 covers E3, the top protection class against molten metal splash.

The twill weave resists tear propagation where work snags and abrasion are routine, 44% cotton keeps it breathable through physical shifts and the antistatic fibre helps in potentially explosive atmospheres. In HV Yellow the EN ISO 20471 high-visibility properties are certified after 50 domestic washes at 60 °C.

ARTEX-210

ARTEX-210 is an inherently flame-resistant aramid fabric for protective and turnout gear: emergency services, firefighting, special forces, naval uniforms and flight suits, and FR overalls for oil, gas, chemical and power industries.

The thermal protection does not wash out, the fabric is very durable and abrasion resistant, and the integrated antistatic carbon yarn helps prevent electrostatic build-up. It was tested after 50 wash cycles at 60 °C at AITEX in Spain.

The all-weather outerwear

FR SOFTSHELL-310

The first inherent FR softshell with integrated high-visibility protection to EN ISO 20471. FR SOFTSHELL-310 brings weather resistance, breathability and permanent flame protection into one fabric, so there is no need to layer a non-FR shell over FR base garments.

The water-resistant finish (EN 343) keeps workers dry, 4% elastolefin (EOL) stretch fibre allows natural movement and FR polyamide with para-aramid extend garment life. Certified through 50 industrial washes at 60 °C.

310 gsm · 42% Modacrylic, 29% Cotton, 19% FR PA, 5% Para-Aramid, 4% EOL, 1% AS · Twill 2/1 · EN ISO 20471

Before you specify. Protection classes depend on the certificate and on how the garment is made. Open the certificate on each product page, or browse the certificates. For the full selection logic by hazard, see our FR fabric selection guide.
