Los tejidos antiestáticos están diseñados para evitar el efecto ESD cuando se trabaja con productos electrónicos, vapores altamente explosivos o trabajos de laboratorio superlimpios.

La descarga electrostática (ESD) aparece cuando dos materiales entran en contacto y se separan. Se descarga con una chispa cuando se toca una pieza metálica (conductora).Este efecto puede dañar los esquemas electrónicos, las máquinas de precisión e incluso provocar una explosión de gas. Para evitar la ESD y descargar la electricidad estática en el aire, se tejen fibras antiestáticas en el tejido.
